Faces of Ford - Azereth Dimphana

“I only have one wish, and that is to sell seeds, not fruits” - Azereth Dimphana

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude." - Maya Angelou

Who is Azereth – tell us about yourself?

I’m someone who believes in intentionally sowing seeds of change - wherever I go, with whomever I meet, and whatever I do. My most precious asset is the ability to build meaningful relationships and be optimistic and positive. I truly believe, from fertile soil all growth, success and transformation can flourish, so I keep watering. I’m versatile by nature, inspired by both challenge and failure, and I’m always looking for ways to grow while helping others do the same. Connecting with people and taking care of others first, gives me joy.

What inspired your love for vehicles and how has that evolved over time?

It started with an admiration for elegant, luxurious cars - clean lines, sleek interiors, and a sense of sophistication. But everything changed the first time I drove a Mustang. That raw speed, the power, the thrill - it hooked me completely. The road became my playground, especially in Cape Town where racing culture adds this spontaneous, electric energy. That love for vehicles has stayed with me, now channelled through my work and passion for the Ford brand.

What drew you to Ford, and what has kept you here?

I joined Ford in 2018, and it’s been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made. There’s a real sense of pride in the quality and innovation of our vehicles, but what truly keeps me here is the culture - the focus on collaboration, excellence, and unity. It feels good to be part of something bigger, where everyone contributes to building a dependable, respected brand. My Ford Warrior, the Ranger Wildtrak is a perfect example - powerful, tough, and built for adventure, just like me.

As a Launch and Localisation Analyst in Product Development, what excites you most about the work you do?

What excites me most about working in PD, is the intersection of innovation, sustainability, engineering, and global impact in powerful ways. As the industry undergoes a massive transformation, I’m excited to be part of reshaping transportation and contributing to the electrification evolution.

PD is not just designing a product - it influences how millions of people around the world experience transportation, making every day intellectually stimulating.

What I enjoy most is cross functional collaboration. As an extrovert interacting with people and building meaningful relationships makes my role so much more meaningful as we work together to find solutions.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I keep myself busy with things that spark joy - painting, gardening, hiking, cooking and mentoring. I’m also working on getting my motorbike licence. I’ve been deeply inspired by women in Europe who ride bikes to deliver donor breast milk to hospitals and neonatal units. That kind of purposeful initiative stuck with me, and I’d love to play that role here - a “Biker Mom” delivering for “Biker Babies.” It’s a small, but powerful way to give back.

You are pursuing your MBA. What has that journey meant to you?

It’s honestly been the toughest, loneliest, but most necessary challenge I’ve taken on. I’m specialising in International Business, and it has pushed me beyond every comfort zone. One highlight was a week-long consulting project in Greece with ALBA Business School — working with a real-life business challenge alongside a diverse team. That experience really shaped my leadership journey and reminded me how growth and discomfort often walk hand in hand.

What motivates your approach to life, both professionally and personally?

For me, life is about joy, purpose and connection. Whether it’s a burst of friendly competition or tackling a consulting challenge, I embrace it fully. I’ve learnt that fun and fulfilment are forms of personal wealth. And I carry that into everything — relationships, leadership, adventure. Life is just more beautiful when you hold hands.

What car do you drive and what’s your relationship like with it?

Oh, I’m completely in love with my Ford Warrior!* It’s “rough and tough” - just the way I like it. There’s a sense of safety and reliability that I get every time I’m behind the wheel, especially when I’m navigating through South Africa’s diverse terrain. It really fuels my adventurous spirit. *(Ford Ranger Wildtrak)

You seem to embrace change and challenge. Where does that mindset come from?

I think it stems from knowing that personal wealth isn’t just financial - it’s about joy, relationships, growth and purpose. I welcome challenge because it stretches me. Life becomes more beautiful when you walk through it hand in hand with others, embracing every twist and turn with intention.

What would you tell your younger self?

I have plenty of things to tell young Azzy 😊

  • Be still…don’t tell everyone what you are busy with.
  • People will disappoint…expect nothing from anyone.
  • Time waits for no man…get up, dress up and show up, don’t waste any opportunity.
  • Start investing early…compound interest is magical over time.
  • Surround yourself with people who are where you want to be, to grow faster.
