Last week, devastating floods hit the Mopani and Vhembe districts in Limpopo, South Africa. Located approximately 200 miles from our Ford offices in Pretoria, these communities have been left cut off and in urgent need of help.
When our communities face their hardest moments, we show up—that’s what Ford Building Together is all about. We are bringing the full power of Ford—our resources, our people, and our vehicles—to support the ongoing relief efforts. Here is an update on how we are working with our partners to get help where it’s needed most:
Urgent Relief Funding: Ford Philanthropy is providing additional funding to our nonprofit partner, Gift of the Givers, to deliver daily hot meals, clean water, and hygiene essentials to more than 800 affected households.
Dealers in Action: The Dealer team at Phalaborwa Ford is working daily with local stakeholders to provide hands-on assistance and resources, including operating a community soup kitchen to ensure neighbors have access to hot meals. Additionally, Nelspruit Ford has deployed its fleet to assist stranded individuals and is supporting South African National Parks (SANParks) with food parcel deliveries to those cut off within the Kruger National Park.
The Power of Our Vehicles: In a crisis, moving supplies and people is the biggest challenge. By providing loaner vehicles and deploying dealer fleets, we are ensuring that Gift of the Givers and other local community teams can navigate difficult terrain to reach isolated communities.
This response is part of our commitment to the communities where we live and work. We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Gift of the Givers, which began in 2017. This relationship allows us to meet the unique needs of the South African community—from immediate disaster relief to long-term education projects—ensuring we stand by our neighbors in both good times and bad.
We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and work with our colleagues in South Africa as they help Limpopo recover and rebuild.
