Ford Bronco Basecamp Wins Red Dot Award for Product Design 2026

SHANGHAI China, May 8, 2026 – The Ford Bronco Basecamp has won the prestigious Red Dot Award for Product Design 2026.
As one of the most respected design competitions globally, the Red Dot Award features a judging panel of world-renowned professors, designers, and journalists from over two dozen countries. In a highly competitive field, the Bronco Basecamp stood out for its design quality, customer-focused innovation, and seamless integration of electrification with authentic Bronco capability, reimagined specifically for the evolving lifestyles of Chinese customers.
Developed entirely by the Ford China Design Center, a world-class studio within Ford’s global network, and produced locally, the Bronco Basecamp represents a bold new chapter for the Bronco nameplate. As the first-ever electrified Bronco and the first designed outside North America, it reflects a deep understanding of evolving customer lifestyles, particularly the desire for vehicles that can transition effortlessly between urban life and outdoor exploration.

At the heart of the design is a clear, human-centric vision: creating an “instant base-camp” experience. From weekday commuting in quiet, all-electric comfort to spontaneous weekend getaways, the Bronco Basecamp is engineered to support a wide range of real-world scenarios. This philosophy is expressed through both its design language and its highly versatile features.
The exterior design balances unmistakable Bronco DNA with a forward-looking EV aesthetic. Signature elements such as the commanding upright stance, muscular proportions, and strong wheel arches are retained, while cleaner surfaces and integrated aerodynamic solutions - such as the innovative Aero-Bridge - enhance efficiency without compromising the vehicle’s rugged identity. A distinctive illuminated grille and lighting signature reinforce its confident, modern presence.
Inside, the Bronco Basecamp delivers a premium, intelligent cockpit that merges durability with comfort and advanced technology.

Customer-driven innovation is evident throughout. Features such as Big Bed Mode allow the cabin to transform into a spacious sleeping area at the touch of a button, while the multifunctional tailgate workstation provides a practical hub for cooking, working, or relaxing outdoors. Thoughtful details, including multiple mounting points, flexible storage solutions, and a pop-up roof for enhanced interior space, ventilation and connection to nature, ensure the vehicle is as functional as it is expressive.
The CMF strategy further enhances this versatility, offering a range of exterior colors and interior themes inspired by both urban environments and natural landscapes. Each combination is designed to give customers the freedom to personalize their vehicle while reinforcing the Bronco’s adventurous spirit.
