A Late-Night Reply Letter

Late that night on the very day the article "As long as the children are still standing at the door, waiting on their tiptoes, we will keep coming!" was published, Ms.Huang Fang, the founder of the Rainbow Center, sent us a handwritten letter:

Dear Ford volunteer partners,

I read your article several times. Reading the words, "As long as the children are still standing at the door, waiting on their tiptoes, we will keep coming," made me reflect deeply for a long time.

Twelve years. From 2014 until now, you have always been here.

You wrote about "wearing masks and not wearing perfume." This was the training you received during your very first visit to the Rainbow Center. Twelve years later, you still remember. Knowing how fragile these children are, you have carefully abided by this every single time—showing not only respect for the rules, but also a deep reverence for life.

You wrote that "the number of applicants always far exceeds the available spots—by a wide margin." For twelve years, everyone has scrambled to sign up for every single activity. This warmth and passion have never cooled down over these twelve years.

You wrote about that trophy. You brought it from the Rainbow Center back to your office and placed it where everyone could see it. A small trophy has become a sacred pact between us to "guard these tiny lives."

You wrote about your steadfast companionship during the pandemic. You couldn't come inside, but you never left. Crowdfunding, hand-sewing cloth dolls, sending in children's drawings... the over  CNY300,000 yuan you raised was a lifeline in our most difficult time. But what weighed far more than the money was letting those of us inside know that someone on the outside still cared.

Thank you for remembering to "wear masks and avoid perfume" for twelve long years.

Thank you for scrambling to join us every single time.

Thank you for placing the trophy where it can be seen, reminding yourselves to return.

Thank you for never leaving us when we needed you most.

The children will always stand at the door, waiting on their tiptoes for you to come.

At that moment when the letter was written, she was on a business trip in Xiamen, running around to organize Children's Day activities for the kids. It wasn't until late at night that she was finally able to sit down and write this letter, stroke by stroke. She mentioned that writing this letter was quite a struggle; she hadn't written by hand in a very long time, and her aging eyes made the characters blur into double vision. Yet, because her Ford friends are so incredibly precious to her and to the Rainbow Center, she felt that only by writing every single stroke could she truly convey the depth of her gratitude. ❤️

On the very last line of the letter, she wrote: The children will always stand at the door, waiting on their tiptoes for you to come.

And we will!
