Ford South Africa Launches Ranger Cup with Team Spirit, Pride and Friendly Competition

Jun 11, 2026

Green and gold filled the Home of Ranger in South Africa as Ford South Africa employees came together to celebrate the launch of the Ranger Cup, a six-week employee soccer tournament designed to foster teamwork, connection and friendly competition across the business.

Held at the Silverton Assembly Plant, the launch event brought together employees from across departments and shifts, creating an atmosphere of excitement, laughter and national pride as teams were officially drawn for the competition ahead.

The event was a true celebration of South African spirit. Employees arrived proudly dressed in green and gold, waving flags and sporting scarves as they gathered around the iconic Ford globe for the official launch. Adding to the occasion, the Ford Choir delivered powerful performances that opened and closed the ceremony, showcasing the diversity, talent and passion that exist beyond the workplace.

Two Ford Rangers formed part of the event display, providing a fitting backdrop for a tournament that proudly carries the Ranger name and celebrates the people behind South Africa's best-selling double cab bakkie.

The excitement reached its peak during the official team draw, where members of the Operating Committee stepped forward to determine the tournament fixtures. The draw was met with cheers, laughter and plenty of friendly banter as employees discovered who they would face when the competition kicks off.

Keeping the crowd entertained throughout the proceedings, the event MC delivered a lively mix of football commentary and Ford humour. One of the biggest laughs of the day came when he declared the "Bakkie Team" the clear favourites to win the tournament, joking, "Well, because we make bakkies!"

For many employees, the tournament represents an opportunity to build relationships beyond their day-to-day roles.

"I am looking forward to seeing my colleagues beyond the work scope," said Phala Makgatje from the Quality Department. "They are amazing to work with, and I cannot wait to see them from their player side."

Ockert Berry, Vice President, Operations, Ford South Africa, welcomed the enthusiastic turnout and highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for employees to connect outside of their daily responsibilities.

"It was fantastic to see so many employees come together today. We all have busy schedules and important work to do, but it is equally important that we take opportunities like this to connect, have some fun and build relationships across teams. The energy and enthusiasm on display today were incredible, and it was great to see our people connecting, laughing and celebrating together. I look forward to seeing the tournament unfold over the coming weeks and wish all the teams the very best."

The Ranger Cup forms part of Ford South Africa's ongoing commitment to employee engagement and workplace culture, creating opportunities for employees from different departments and shifts to connect, collaborate and celebrate together.

With the teams now drawn and excitement building across the plant, the countdown to kick-off has officially begun. Employees will soon swap their workstations for the soccer field as they compete for Ranger Cup glory, while building friendships, memories and team spirit along the way.

Stay tuned for tournament fixtures, match results and highlights as the Ranger Cup action gets underway.
